About Me

Welcome Readers, Listeners or Prospective Co-workers or Collaborators!

My name is Swapnil Karkare. I am a Chartered Accountant and a post-graduate in economics based in Mumbai, India. I have diverse work experience ranging from MIS and audits to economics research and writing. I am fascinated by the interlinkages between economics, finance, humanities and social sciences. And I wish to write and speak about all these topics. I want to learn new things and present them before you.

As a subject, economics does not excite many students. People, at large, fail to appreciate the uses of economics in daily life. Mainly, people connect this subject with ‘money’ or think of it as ‘something that is very difficult to understand’. I would like to break these myths and make economics an exciting subject.

Economics, though presented in a very ‘jargon-y’ way, it is something that can, actually, be relatable in everyday life through our thoughts, actions and reactions, decisions, whims and fancies.

And that also made me think about making it simpler for people at large. Economics and finance are English language topics, by default, due to their design and complexities around the world. But I wanted to bring some change to that by communicating in a regional Indian language, Marathi. That is the reason I have also created ‘econGully Marathi Podcast’. Here, I release three episodes a week and talk about different things happening around the world. Topics covered so far are broad in scope. From Srilanka’s economic crisis to LGBTQ economy and from the commodities market to climate change, the podcast tries to convey new developments and historical references affecting our lives directly or indirectly.

  • I have also started my own YouTube channel recently, where I host interviews related to economics, finance and much more.
  • I have started podcasting and interviewing people in Marathi but would soon start in English too.
  • If you like my work, please share it with your dear ones, friends and colleagues. I would love to hear from you – whether you liked an article/podcast or not, what more things you would like to see/listen on this website and so on and so forth.
